Travel

Oh how I hate travel!!
For the first time EVER, we got to Minneapolis having left Cancun on time, we got through immigration & customs after getting luggage promptly....those all together have never happened before. BUT now we just wait!.....Got into Mpls @ 3:15 and next flight is 9:45....argh. But I'm sure my daughter will have the house all neat and clean and waiting for us, right JEN??? (-:
Another wonderful year in Cancun!

Thursday 3/8

It was a great day. Weather was beautiful, though it clouded over toward mid to late afternoon. We spent the entire day on the beach.Took leftover breads to feed the gulls again. That is so fun..each has their own personality....all say they are starving...kind of like our cats!

Really hating to go home. And as we pack, I can't figure out why we have such a hard time getting stuff back in as we're leaving a bunch behind (foodstuffs we brought).....regardless, it will again be stuffing and weighing bags, etc. Oh well......

We did plan food better this year and not leaving as much behind as before....though the maids can take and use whatever is left. Shelly assured me they do use it, so don't mind that so much.

Said our good byes to staff and neighbors. Sigh........assured everyone we would be back next year. Let's hope that is true.

Leave the room @ 7:30 for an 8:00 shuttle....wait at the airport for a 11:40 flight and then a 6 hour layover in Minneapolis...hopefully arriving in Aberdeen @ around 11:00.

Wed 3/7

Wednesday started out windy & nasty; I even had a hard time taking my walk against the wind...bummed! But while it never got "calm", the wind did go down, the sun out and it turned out to be a beautiful day.  So took advantage of the sun and just laid out from about 8:00 until 2:00.

Dale, in his ultimate patience, attended a meeting with Jose, who tried to sell the 2 weeks here in 913. Up to this point in time, we have always rented. Each year they threaten rent will double and triple for the next years....ditto, same story this year. And each year we spend as least some time asking ourselves if it would be wise to buy the time, rather than worrying about if we can get the right weeks, right villa, etc. So much discussion about that...which continues.

I went for a manicure and pedicure and then back to the villa just in time to get ready to go to Captain's Cove. We have never been there and they flaunt their "crocodile feeding time:, wonderful atmosphere, etc. It came with high recommendations and we thought we'd give it a try. Shelly told us that they are down from 2 to 1 croc. Apparently, someone had thrown in a bunch of plastic bottles, which it ate, and this caused it's death. Now who the heck would do that? Geezz.......
Well, we didn't see any feeding time and barely caught a couple glimpses of it slithering around (see pics), but it was a wonderful atmosphere....food was a little fancy for my taste, but still a very enjoyable evening.

I have learned that Dale has a hard time even handling a point & shoot camera. I asked that he take Gabriela's pic (yes, Jen, she is still here!) while I was having my manicure. Well, one pic was very blurry and the other taken into a sunny window, so ....well, not a great pic. I'll have to see if I can get better pics of both Shelly and Gabriela.

At each unique restaurant,  we have had a picture taken of the two of us. I knew I was looking bad, but geezz.......I have lots of work to do before summer. Not sure, though, what to do about the wrinkles. Anyway, since I look so awful in each, I have not shared them. The one at Captain's Cove isn't much better (and didn't show the atmosphere....usually waiters are better photographers!)....but shared it anyway, but still wondering where Dale found the old bag?!?!

Tomorrow is our last day )-:
Dale is ready to come home, I am not. Some of it is the dread of a day of flying. We will have to leave here about 8 Friday morning to get home around 11:00 p.m. Really??? The total flying time is only about 4 hours. Got to get that Lear up and running!!!

We have saved the last day to just hang around here, pack, clean up the villa, eat the leftovers, etc.

A cloudy windy walk

This is the old Dolphin Discovery build we left from in 2008. They have just left it to fall apart; it is such a quaint building, I think someone should do something with it.

View of Royal Cancun (lower levels, not the "higher" building) from the point of Casa Maya.

This is one of the two cats around.

And yes, Olivia, they STILL have big mouths!

Tuesday 3/6

Last night was so windy, but just before dark, I decided to walk the dock. I saw a cap floating in the surf. Someone must have lost it...had blown off their head (it said Dolphin Discovery). So I followed it for about 20 minutes in the waves bouncing hither and thither and finally it got close enough to grab it. I did have the good grace to take it and ask the fisherman on the dock if it was his. But he assured me it was not. It probably could have blown all the way over from Dolphin Discovery at Isla!!!

Whoa----another cool & windy day......
Talked with the MN Murphys and they said “well it is Murphy’s Law”....(-:
So, not a whole lot to do. We were whimps and bowed out of water aerobics..just too cold!! Thought you only had to do that in SD!
But we took about 1 ½ mile hike to the closest flea market....got a few last things. Can’t believe our time is nearly up and we are looking at ‘last minute things’....using up the food we have, etc.

We ate at a quaint beach side café at the flea market and then marched back. By then it was a bit nicer and we did hit the beach for a while. Then we went and again, fed the gulls. I really love that! What a kick!

Monday 3/5

Monday–day 9–3/5/12
5:15
Well, got up to find the wind still howling. I feel sorry for the grounds folks who have to rake the seaweed...though last year they had a big tractor machine. May be too much for that, though.

There is a family (the Murphys) from Henderson, MN, whom we met and have chatted with a couple of times.....it is Mom/Dad and three young adult daughters....I feel so bad for them being here just for this week with this weather. They seem to be enjoying it anyway.

7:00 pm
Well, the weather did not improve. It was cool and VERY windy all day. Uck...and I can handle one day, but as of now, the forecast calls for this all week.

We still went for a walk “out front”....stopped and had lunch on a nice sidewalk deli.
Then came back and went for massages! If you can’t be outside, what better place to be??
Now have to plan what to do inside for the next three days....boo hiss!

Feeding the gulls

Day 8 --3/4

Yesterday I had my days all mixed up. For some reason, it was Sunday to me all day. While I was fixing supper, I asked Dale three times if he could find 60 Minutes; each time he patiently told me it was Saturday. On the 4th time, he said “ok....I’ll see if I can find it”....we both laughed...I’m only hoping its not a sign of stuff to come in the (at least near) future!

While the sunrise was gorgeous, you could feel/see a haze of some type....after a couple hours, it got pretty ugly. It reminds me of when the kids were here in 2008. It is nippy and VERY windy..there are whitecaps and well, its just plain ucky We just took a walk & they are still setting up for the Welcome Party, but I sure wouldn’t want to grill in this! Optimistic, I guess??

Later—it is really ugly out....big piles of the seaweed up on the beach and even saw a big fish thrown on the beach with it. Again, reminds me of 2008. I hadn’t seen that type of weather here before and haven’t since....until now.

They did grill and have the welcome party....not as well attended as usual, but whatever.
Since it was not great beach weather, we made a quick trip to Walmart.
That’s about it for today....hoping the weather shapes up, but looks like the forecast is for cooler & windy for most of the week )-:

I’m working on uploading videos to the blog. Finally figured out how, but thus far, it has taken over an hour to upload a 70 second video....hmmmm..

Day 7- 3/3

Well, today was moving day (-:
Even though it is right next door, it becomes a hassle. So I solved that!...I decided to go do laundry while they were moving. Well-----1) the laundry was really crowded and 2) they were late moving us, so.....well, whatever, we made it next door! This actually is a nicer villa, so I don't know why I'm so attached to 912....weird!!

A hot and humid day here.....only 81 degree, but 70% humidity...which seems unusual.
Dale went out snorkeling for a bit. Didn't see too much....did find one medium size stingray, but of course, it was in the seaweed, and took off.....so no picture. Other than that, it was lying on the beach and reading.

Day 6- 3/2

Tomorrow we move next door. Someone is chomping at the bit to get into 912 (told us down on the beach and actually acted a bit po'ed that we were in "their" villa. Geezz....don't think so). But regardless, they have it for next week and we move to 913.  Can't believe we've been here a week already! It always goes so fast.

This first picture is of Dolce Mente Pompei, an Italian restaurant  we like to go to. In fact, we went tonight. However, this bare room is transposed with tables, chair, formal table clothes, candlelight and the whole bit. About 5:00, it turns into a booming business. We had someone take pictures of us there, but they didn't turn out. So instead, you can see the tiny lizard that welcomed and had supper with us, and the big Roman!!!
